I’m having a problem with my Cheyenne hawk thunder. Firstly i can’t run it with a cartridge under like 8.5v.I typically run at 9.2 anyways but when I first put my cartridge in, it’ll run extremely slow and even stop. After messing with it for about 10 mins I can usually get it to run right, but it’s so Inconvenient to have to toy with it infront of my client lol. Typically it’ll run normal (but very load )when the grip is all the way to the left , but as soon as I set my needle out to my liking it’ll run slow and stop. What could this be? I use kingpins crown cartridges.

Hi Cori,

it sounds like the motor of your machine is having a problem around the spring. To make sure that the problem is not the power supply you are using, please test the machine on another power supply. The Thunder is a powerful machine that needs the Cheyenne Start Up Cable for some power supplies to start up right at the speed you are using.

Another possible solution could be to start the machine at 11 volts and then turning it down.

If the problem persists, we recommend sending it to Cheyenne for repairs via this service: https://cheyennetattoo.com/en/cheyenne-service/repair-service.
